Project Status
June 2007:
The Technical Advisory Committee met for the fifth time. The TAC reviewed and provided comments on the reduction of the 15 preliminary alternatives to the newly recommended eight tier one alternatives. In addition, the group discussed suburban transit connectivity and alternative analysis next steps.
April 2007:
Two public meetings were held in the month of April. One was in Methuen, Massachusetts and one was in Derry, New Hampshire. Both meetings provided information on the same materials, including the 15 preliminary alternatives. In addition, comments were solicited on these alternatives and on the study in general. Both meetings had a great turnout and lively discussions. Thanks to those who attended!
March 2007:
The Stakeholder Group met for the first time in March. The items discussed at this well attended meeting included the purpose and objectives of the study, demographics and potential transit alternatives, and land use/transit-oriented development. A brief update of the study was also provided, describing each of the three phases of the project. Thanks to all who spent the evening with us in Lawrence, Massachusetts!
February 2007:
The Technical Advisory Committee met for the fourth time. The TAC reviewed and provided comments on a draft Purpose and Need statement as well as a draft alternatives analysis. The project team began coordinating the first Stakeholder Committee meeting (set for March 28, 2007) and two public meetings (set for April 2007).
January 2007:
Members of the project team met with the New Hampshire State Legislature to present and discuss the project with the elected officials.
December 2006:
Members of the project team gave a presentation on the I-93 Transit Investment Study at the Community Technical Assistance Program Conference on December 2, 2006. In addition, members of the project team met with the following groups individually:
- City of Methuen – Community Development
- Metropolitan Area Planning Commission (Boston, MA)
November 2006:
The Technical Advisory Committee met for the third time. The TAC reviewed and provided comments on the draft project website. The committee heard a presentation on existing zoning and land use policies in the communities on the potential corridors. The project team continues its work on the travel demand model. Members of the project team met with the following groups individually:
- Town of Derry
- Town of Londonderry
- City of Methuen – Mayor
- Merrimack Valley Area Transportation Co.
- Manchester – Boston Regional Airport
October 2006:
Work continues on the alternatives analysis and the travel demand model. Members of the project team met with the Manchester Infrastructure Conference.
September 2006:
The Technical Advisory Committee met for the second time in September. The TAC heard a presentation and provided comments on a preliminary alternatives analysis. The project team continued the individual stakeholder meetings and also presented the results of some of the meetings to the TAC. Members of the project team met with the following groups individually:
- City of Manchester
- Manchester – Boston Regional Airport
- Town of Windham
- Town of Salem
- Town of Derry
August 2006:
August has been a busy month! The Technical Advisory Committee had their first “kick-off” meeting on the 1st of the month. They offered the project team a lot of useful insights and information about the project procedures, contacts, and schedules. The project team then got busy coordinating individual meetings with stakeholders in the region. Members of the project team met with the following groups individually:
- Massachusetts Office of Commonwealth Development
- Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority
- Massachusetts Executive Office of Transportation – Office of Transportation Planning
- CB Richard Ellis New England - Manchester office (real estate)
- Easter Seals - New Hampshire
- Norton Asset Management – Manchester (real estate, community activist)
- Town of Windham
- Merrimack Valley Planning Commission and Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority – Haverhill, MA
- Southern New Hampshire Planning Commission
The team also began researching existing documents and developing the Draft Public Involvement Plan and website.
